What is Chair Yoga?

Yes, YOU can do yoga.

Even if you have a bum knee. Even if you have a bad back. Even if you can’t get down on the floor. Chair Yoga is an adapted form of yoga that makes yoga accessible to everyone. Chair Yoga allows you to modify your yoga practice based on your health, your mobility, and your current ability level.

Chair Yoga offers a practice that includes seated poses on the chair and standing poses using the chair for balance and support. Totally Chair Yoga™ offers a fully seated practice, and can be adapted as a wheelchair-based yoga practice.

“This yoga is the best thing I have ever done for my 90-year-old body!”

“The Chair Yoga is not so intimidating, especially for beginners of all ages. When you talk about yoga, people think you have to sit cross-legged on the floor and stand on your head, and things like that. Chair Yoga encourages more people to try yoga.”

“Before my first Yoga class, I could barely walk half a block. In just two weeks, I was walking around two blocks. By the third, three blocks, etc. My legs are stronger, breathing is easier, and my endurance is increasing daily. I’m off the couch and into life!”

“Yoga is a wonderful form of exercise, and a way to calm the body and mind, and bring a sense of well-being. It has helped me relax and slow down, giving me an inner peace. From Yoga, I’ve become healthier in my body, mind, and spirit. It has done wonders for stress and tension and brings self-awareness. My body and mind thank me.”
